Sophie Melem December 2025

Sophie Melem grew up in a family of musicians in Graz and began her first dance lessons in 2004 at the age of five at the local Academy of Ballet and Dance. From 2013 to 2015 she continued her training at the Hungarian Dance Academy in Budapest. She then studied at the Ballet School Theater Basel with a scholarship from the Pierino Ambrosoli Foundation.
Since graduating as a professional stage dancer (EFZ) in 2018, Sophie has been working as a freelance artist. Her engagements have taken her to Theater an der Wien, the Bregenz Festival, Graz Opera, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, and the Erkel Theatre in Budapest. She has appeared in productions directed by Stefan Herheim, Philipp Stölzl, and Christof Loy.
In 2023, she toured Spain with the International Ballet Company under the direction of Cristina Terentiev (https://internationalballetcompany.com/). She continues her freelance career and has recently begun rehearsals at the Zurich Opera House for the production of Die Fledermaus.
