Daniela Ambrosoli, the daughter of the German expressionist dancer Sonja Bragowa and the entrepreneur Pierino Ambrosoli, a native of Lombardy, was born in Ascona, a little fishing town in the South of Switzerland.

She attended school in Ascona and Locarno, where she earned the Federal Type B University Entrance Qualification Certificate. This was followed by a period of university study and work experience in the fields of psychology and medicine in Florence, Zurich and Geneva.

With the birth of her first two children and the premature death of her father, her life changed dramatically.

Daniela Ambrosoli trained in management and took over some of the firms created by her father, including Camping Delta and Amministrazione Immobiliare Ambrosoli in Locarno; in 1999, she created Travel & Culture Management SA in Zurich.

In 1977, her daughter Shari was born; from her earliest childhood she displayed a talent and passion for dance.

In 1990, Daniela Ambrosoli founded the Pierino Ambrosoli Foundation in Zurich; this foundation supports the training of young talents in the field of dance and music throughout the world.

In the following years, Daniela Ambrosoli sat on the Boards of Directors of numerous international associations active in the fields of dance, music, and the humanitarian and social fields. Daniela Ambrosoli, therefore, often took cultural and working trips abroad.

Through her daughter Shari Yantra Marcacci, screenwriter and director, and her son Aliocha Merker, a still photographer and cameraman, she has been closely related to the movie industry.

She worked as an assistant director, production manager and translator of the director Renato Pugina for the Italian Swiss Television, RSI, among others: “La Depressione, un male oscuro” (2004), “Sul corpo e nel cuore” (2007), “In un corpo sbagliato” (2010) and “ Madri figlicide" (2011), “L’ultimo viaggio” (2013) and “Superstiti” (2014). As co-director she realised with Renato Pugina “Per Amor di Dio” (2011) for the Italian Swiss Television, RSI.

In 2009 she directed her first documentary HN Hermann Nitsch and marked her debut as a filmdirector.

The film was an official selection of the Asolo Film Festival 2010, Italy, Punta de Este Film Festival 2010, Uruguay, Le Femme Film Festival 2010, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills film Festival 2011, Los Angeles, Revelation - Perth international film Festival 2011, Australia, Da Vinci Film Festival 2011, USA, Festival du Film de Strasbourg in 2011, France, and the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival 2011, USA.

Awards: Audience Choice Award - Best Documentary, at the Beverly Hills Film Festival 2011, Los Angeles.

In 2017 comes to life "The Making of a Dream - Life as a Ballet Dancer", a cinematic essay about ballet, dance, young dancers and their lives.
“The Making of a Dream” is the result of Daniela’s lifelong love for dance, music and the theatre scene. This documentary investigates the rough way of a ballet dancer, from his first steps as a child in an amateur ballet school to the goal to become a principal dancer in a world-renowned dance company. Many interviews were taken, with famous protagonists of the dance scene worldwide, such as the well-known dancer Etoile from The Scala in Milano, Luciana Savignano and among others, with the Swiss actress Sabine Timoteo, a former dancer. The film crew visited several acclaimed companies and schools in Switzerland, The Netherlands, Italy, and in the USA Boston and New York.

"The Making of a Dream" was shown for six weeks at the Stüssihof cinema in Zurich and programmed on the Ticino television station RSI from October 2018.

Daniela Ambrosoli speaks and writes well in Italian and German as her mother tongue as well as French, English and Spanish.
